The bay of Begur-Sa Riera Residential area Mas Mato |
 | |
 |
After Playa de Pals the little rocky bay "Ilja Roja" follows in southern direction, a popular nudist beach. And afterwards comes the, compared to "Playa de Pals", rather narrow bay of "Sa Riera", a fishing village, almost completely preserved in it's origin and typical for the middle Costa Brava (Baix Empordà).
The only concession to the zeitgeist are a few good restaurants and nice terraces cafes, some small shops and a supermarket. The bay itself consists of a fine sany beach and is a real attraction in front of the picturesque backdrop of the contemplative fishing village.
A particularly delightful experience for bathers and water sports enthusiasts.
As next follow in a southerly direction the no less romantic bays of "Aiguagelida", "Aiguafreda", "Fornells" and "Sa Tuna" with the equally almost completely in it's origin preserved traditional fishing villages. This "wildest" and most bizarre part of the Costa Brava, where it got it's name from, is ruled by "Begur", a medieval military city with a mighty castle, high up behind the cliffs of the steep coast. From there, you have a stunning panoramic sight over the sea, the coast and far inland of the middle Costa Brava.
Today, "Begur" is a peaceful shopping town with some restaurants, small bars, cafes and many shops where you can get almost everything. "Sa Riera" is not far away from the beach, only about 1600 m. And it is on the small, if also quite curvy road quickly and easily reachable by car.
Only about 100m from the beach in "Sa Riera" the residential area "Mas Mato" begins in a privileged hillside with views over the bay with detached bungalows in loosening up construction, which are accessible only through quiet residential streets with no through traffic. Here are some other of our bungalows.
From the beach to the first houses of this residential area it takes by car on the road about 800 m, by foot over well applied and easily accessible stairs about 400 m.
