The bay of Pals

| Just past the bay of Rosas / La Escala, at the northern end of the Costa Brava, the bay of Pals follows in southern direction where the middle Costa Brava (Baix Empordà) begins.
Pals is (comparable to "Rothenburg ob der Tauber" in Germany, only smaller) a historic, completely restored, today again inhabited, very agile and worth seeing medieval town, situated on a small mountain peak which provides a wonderful view over the entire bay with same name with it's six km long sandy beach.
(Btw.: According to today still controversal statements of some historiens, Christoper Columbus once should be started to his voyage of discovery from here.)
The little town itself is located about six km from the beach. In between lies a wide valley with the river Ter and extensive pine groves wich are a nature reserve for birds today. At the northern end of the bay the fishing village Estartit is situated and at the southern end a small residential area named Playa de Pals, where also some of our apartments and holiday houses are.
Between Playa de Pals and Estartit is nothing but the six km long, wide, golden sand beach which is limited on the land-side by the bird sanctuary with it's pine groves. A paradise for bathing, swimming, sunbathing.
But also for long beach walks, surfing, sailing and any other kind of water sports.
Especially interesting for divers: The colorful underwater biotope at the offshore islands, the "Islas Medas".
On the edge of the nature reserve for birds, about 300-1300 m from the beach towards Pals, Mas Pinell and La Pineda, two other small residential areas, are located in a quiet and shady pine forest where some of our bungalows are.
And above La Pineda, about 2500 m from the beach, located in loosening up construction with separate holiday houses and big garden terrains, the residential area Mas Tomasi is situated on a hill that offers magnificent views of the sea, the beach and the whole wide bay with its pine groves.
On this hill you will find most of our bungalows. And right at the beginning of Mas Tomasi is our reception office, a large supermarket, a pharmacy, a very good restaurant and small bar.
Equally attractive is the offer of sports and leisure facilities in the area:
Two golf courses with 18 holes (Golfclub Playa de Pals, Golfclub Serres de Pals), several sports facilities with tennis, squash, mini golf, etc., a riding school, an airfield for ultralight aircrafts, freshwater fishing, the marina Estartit (Marina with boat rentals), bicycle and car rental in Pals, and of course all the shops, supermarkets, doctors, pharmacies, cafes and restaurants. |
